What are Resell Rights Products?
Many internet marketers make money by selling products which they didn’t create. I’m not talking about affiliate marketing where you’re effectively promoting someone else’s product in return for a commission, but about selling a product hosted on your own domain and keeping 100% of the profits. This is done by purchasing products which have resell rights. There are different types of resell rights which I’ll discuss below.
Resell rights products are usually downloadable information products such as e-books and videos which have been produced by someone else. They often come with a sales page, making it easy for you to start selling quickly. You’re not allowed to change the product, but all the money you make, you keep. You sell these products with personal use only (PUO) rights, i.e. your purchaser is not allowed to sell them on. They are also known as resale rights products.
Master Resell Rights
Master resell rights products go one step further than resell rights products. Not only can the purchaser use the product themselves, but they can also sell the product on. This time they keep the profits their sales generate. Once again, no changes can be made to the product.
Many e-books contain affiliate links. When the reader clicks on the link and purchases the product, the affiliate makes a commission. Products with rebranding rights allow the owner to remove the links and replace them with their own affiliate links. If the book goes viral, you can make a substantial passive income from them. In fact, you could be generating an income for years to come from a successful rebranded e-book.
Private Label Rights
Private label rights (PLR) products are the most flexible and powerful type of resell rights product. Here, not only can you sell the product, but you can also change it.
Many people acquiring PLR products will simply change the graphics, rename the product and put their own name on it. It’s a quick way to become a product owner and get your name out into the market place. However, this fails to exploit the real power behind PLR products and if your purchaser already has the product, albeit under a different name, your refund rates are likely to increase. Not only this, but your reputation may take a pounding and they may never buy from you again.
To maximize the potential of PLR products, you really need to substantially change the content of the product. You could do this in several ways, although for many this is often easier to do with an e-book than, for example, a video product.
Changes to PLR products could include,
- Re-writing the product in your own words
- Adding to the product, for example by including additional chapters
- Making slide shows or videos based on the content of the e-book
- Producing an audio file, thus allowing users to access the content from there MP3 player
By packaging the above components into one product you can turn a humble low cost e-book into a home study course which you can market and charge a lot more for.
Resell Rights Licenses
Resell rights products come with a license detailing what you can and cannot do with the product. An example of a license is shown below.
The terms of these licenses vary, so it’s important you read them before you purchase the product, to make sure it fits with your intentions.
